These two have tangoed once before, with GSP taking a close split decision at UFC 58 in March of 2006. The win was somewhat controversial, as some MMA enthusiasts felt that although the champion was able to secure more takedowns, Penn inflicted more damage and should have won.
“This may be the most anticipated rematch in UFC history,” UFC President Dana White stated in today’s press release. “Their first fight was an epic battle of two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. After that fight, St. Pierre would go on to win the UFC world welterweight title, and Penn would go on to win the UFC world lightweight title.”
Tickets for this spectacular event will go on sale to UFC Fan Club members on Thursday, with the general public having access on Sunday.
